LOOKING FOR A CHURCH HOME?
Things to Consider

People have different reasons for going to church and people have different priorities when considering the kind of church they would like to attend.

Some people may not even be certain of what they believe about God.

They may just be looking for a traditional place of worship where their family can participate in Christian education and or social activities.

Some people may be looking for a form of spirituality to fill a void in their lives, but aren't certain as to what that might be.  They may seek a church or organization that is more liberal rather than strictly biblical.

Some people may feel that Christianity has elements of truth, but that it is one of many roads that lead to God.  These people may be seeking a church that welcomes all kinds of religions.

Some people are convinced that there is only one way to God and that the way is through Jesus Christ. These people are seeking a church that is biblical.  They believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that it is trustworthy and reliable for learning spiritual truth.

Some churches have beautiful buildings, but are void of the beauty of the Gospel.

Some churches have great music, but are uncertain about the realities of great spiritual truths.

Some churches have warm and friendly people, but fail to help the sinner discover his true need.

What is most important when looking for a church home?

According to II Timothy 4:1-4 the answer is "the preaching of the Word":

"In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage - with great patience and careful instruction.  For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine.  Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths."

What does the preaching of the Word accomplish
II Timothy 3:16 says:

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

What is the central message in the preaching of the Word? It is the Gospel... the message that Jesus Christ, the Son of God (the Word made flesh) came to live among us.  He lived a sinless, perfect life and offers His righteousness to us by faith.  In return, Jesus Christ took our sin upon Himself and was punished for our transgressions.  He died on the cross as the perfect sin offering (a lamb without blemish) for all time.  By believing in Him and surrendering to Him as our God, our Lord, our Savior, we receive the riches of eternity and adoption into the family of God.
